Promise to the Planet

Just like any natural process the growth of Atteya is developing naturally too.

My desire and passion for making is combined with a promise to put our planet and people first. On-going research enables me to continuously challenge the use of materials and methods of production without jeopardising the style and quality of each piece. My goal is to keep pushing the sustainable credentials of Atteya, maintaining 100% transparency along the way.

Precious Metals

The effects of Gold Mining contribute to it being one of the most destructive industries in the world.

Polluting land and drinking water with mercury and cyanide it leads to destroying ecosystems and traditional livelihoods as well as displacing indigenous communities. Thankfully, being a natural material, precious metals can however be recycled infinitely. Meaning recycled metals are far better for the environment without loosing any quality at all.

All Atteya jewellery is handmade or cast in 100% certified recycled precious metals here in the UK. Single Mine Origin, Fairmined and Fairtrade Gold is also available upon request.

Organic Cotton

The tassels in Atteya jewellery are handmade using GOTS certified Organic Cotton yarn which means they are dyed organically too.

The production of regular cotton and synthetic yarn has a huge affect on our land and the environment which I invite you to find out more about here. So I dug deep to find the highest quality of GOTS organic cotton yarn that didn’t jeopardise the vibrancy of colours or the soft lustrous feel.

Production

Atteya jewellery is produced in three unique ways depending on the desired outcome of the piece.

Firstly, by hand using 100% recycled precious metals from Atteya’s London studio. Secondly by the ancient art of Lost-Wax Casting. Atteya’s founder Catherine intricately hand sculpts each piece herself in wax and then works with a small independent Jewellery Caster for the casting process before the raw jewellery is returned to Atteya for final hand finishing. Then last but not least Atteya’s newest form of production takes shape by using the latest technology in jewellery 3D Printing. Catherine personally 3D models each piece herself using advanced CAD software which is proving to be the most sustainable option yet.

Atteya is proud to support local craft and works with a small group of individuals and masters of their trade for services such as engraving and stone setting right in the heart of Hatton Gardens. Atteya’s casting and 3D printing is produced just outside of the world renowned Jewellery Quarter in the Midlands, by a company founded in 1979 who are pioneers within the industry on sustainability in design. They cast using certified 100% recycled metals and hold Single Mine Origin, Fairtrade and Fairmined licences.

Packaging & Delivery

The design of the bespoke Atteya packaging it approached with the same aesthetic and environmental consideration.

Currently each Atteya order is placed in a reusable and recyclable branded box made from FSC certified card, water-based glued and water-based inks.

The foam inserts are made from a 100% renewable raw material - a bio polymer and by product of pulp wood production. Your jewellery also comes with an organic cotton Fair Trade bag to help keep your jewellery protected when not being worn.

The boxes are then placed amongst recycled paper, sealed with a biodegradable paper sticker using water-based inks and within recyclable FSC card postal boxes,

Currently during production Atteya goods are transported in London via bicycle and delivered to you in the UK and Internationally using DPD’s Carbon Neutral Service or Royal Mail.
